About Us

Project Fire Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that no child battles critical illness alone. We partner with fire departments to support critically ill children and their families—bringing comfort, fun, and building meaningful, long-term relationships rooted in trust, compassion, and consistency.

Through 170 chapters across 14 states, we support over 200 Fire Buddy families by showing up in both the hardest moments and the everyday ones in between. Our firefighters celebrate birthdays, deliver holiday gifts, host first-time welcome visits, and provide emotional and financial support—including assistance with essentials like rent, utilities, and medical expenses. We also create unforgettable experiences that bring joy, hope, and a sense of normalcy to families navigating incredibly difficult journeys.

At the heart of our mission is connection. Our chapters rally around each family, ensuring ongoing support for both Fire Buddies and their siblings—because we know the entire family is impacted. We also maintain a strong presence in DuPage County, actively supporting local Fire Buddy families and building meaningful partnerships within the community.

With 89% of all funds directly reinvested into our programs, Project Fire Buddies is committed to creating more good days and building a strong, compassionate community—because no child should fight alone.
