Description
Theologian and best-selling author Dr. John Piper will speak at Wheaton College in Edman Memorial Chapel. Piper will deliver a lecture titled "Race, Repentance, and Rejoicing: Ethnicity in the Christian Church", in which he'll examine the roots of racism and make the case for pursuing racial harmony from a biblical perspective.
A 1968 graduate of Wheaton College, Piper currently serves as Pastor for Preaching and Vision at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. .He is the author of numerous books, including recent bestsellers Don't Waste Your Life and The Passion of Jesus Christ.
Piper's opening lecture, focusing on his book Bloodlines: Race, Cross and the Christian, (Crossway, 2011) will be followed with a panel discussion. Panelists include Pastor David Choi, lead pastor of the Church of the Beloved in Chicago, Pastor Al Guerra, founder of a Hispanic church in Wheaton, and Lisa Fort, mother of two graduates and two current students at Wheaton College. Vince Bacote, Director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics at Wheaton College, will moderate the discussion.
Wednesday evening's session is free and open to the public and features a question and answer time in addition to the lecture and discussion. This special event is sponsored by the Wheaton College Chaplain's Office and Student Government, and Crossway Books.
