COD Invites Community to Tour Campus Facilities Oct. 15
College of DuPage will host a Community Open House for District 502 residents on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m., which will include tours of the College’s newest facilities.
All buildings on the Glen Ellyn campus will be open, with self-guided tours available for the recently completed Homeland Security Education Center (HEC) and Culinary & Hospitality Center (CHC), and student ambassadors providing tours of the Student Services Center (SSC).
Shuttle service and free refreshments will be available for visitors throughout the event. In addition, in the HEC, the Glen Ellyn Fire Department will provide demonstrations of high-angle rescues/rappelling on the training tower, a simulated fire rescue, and opportunities for the public to climb on and investigate fire engines and equipment. The CHC will feature samples from the new Waterleaf fine dining restaurant, Wheat Café and the Bake Shop. In addition, visitors can view students from prep and baking classes at work in the glass-window kitchens. And in the SSC, visitors can speak to students and COD representatives about transfer opportunities, financial aid and the registration process. During this event, the College will waive the application fee for all new students.
“These projects would not have been possible without the strong support of our community,” said COD Board of Trustees Chairman David Carlin. “Residents of District 502 should feel great pride in what has been accomplished on this campus over the past five years.”
The HEC, CHC and SSC are three of six new facilities funded in part by a 2002 capital referendum. Also supported by the 2002 referendum are the Early Childhood Education and Care Center (completed in 2007), the Health and Science Center and Technology Education Center (completed in 2009), as well as an extensive renovation of the Berg Instructional Center and Student Resource Center (scheduled for completion in 2012).
A 2010 bond referendum will support several projects that are currently under construction or in the final planning stages, including renovations of the McAninch Arts Center, Library, Physical Education Center and Seaton Computing Center.
“The bricks and mortar of this institution at long last match the excellence in education we have been delivering to students for nearly five decades,” said COD President Dr. Robert L. Breuder. “These are all very unique facilities – very forward looking. It would be difficult to find a two-year or four-year institution in this country that surpasses College of DuPage in its offerings for both students and community members.”
