SUMMARY:SB 16 Community Information Session
DESCRIPTION:What is Senate Bill 16?\n\n There are school districts in the State that do not have the appropriate level of funding to operate their schools.\n\n\n\nIn July 2013\, the Illinois Senate Education Funding Advisory Committee was tasked with recommending ways to improve public education funding in Illinois. The result of the task force was the creation of Senate Bill 16 (SB16). \n\n\n\nSB16 does not increase the level of education funding\, but changes the way in which already underfunded and unreliable State dollars are distributed to school districts. \n\n\n\nThe goal of SB16 was to create equity in funding so that districts with less local support would receive more State funding. SB16 does not address adequacy in State funding to school districts. \n\n\n\nHow will SB16 affect District 200?\n\n If enacted into law\, SB16 will have a severe\, negative impact on District 200. \n\n\n\nDistrict 200's State revenue will be reduced by $9.8 million a significant impact to our classrooms. Reductions will be phased in over four years and then become a permanent loss in annual State revenue. \n\n\n\nDistrict 200 would have the 5th largest funding reduction in the State and the 2nd largest reduction in DuPage County. \n\n\n\nFiscal Responsibility in District 200 \n\n At $11\,959 per student\, District 200's operating expense per student is comparable to the state average of $11\,842. \n\n\n\nDistrict 200 delivers a quality education to high-achieving students at a cost that is below what many other districts spend to educate their students. \n\n\n\nFY15 marked the 5th consecutive year of a balanced budget in spite of dwindling State revenue that has decreased by over $6 million since 2008.
