DESCRIPTION:Dr. Richard C. Taylor will deliver a philosophy lecture titled "Ibn Rushd / Averroes and Aquinas on Ultimate Human Happiness" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday\, November 12. Dr. Taylor is professor of philosophy at Marquette University. His area of expertise and interests include religious studies\, ancient and medieval metaphysics\, philosophical psychology\, Islamic and Arabic philosophical thought and philosopher Thomas Aquinas. He serves as editor of History of Philosophy Quarterly. In this lecture\, Taylor will discuss Christian theologian Thomas Aquinas's criticism of Andalusian philosopher Ibn Rushd (Averroes)\, and the surprising influence this key thinker of Arabic/Islamic tradition had on Aquinas's theology. Free and open to the public\, this second lecture in the 2013-2014 McManis Lecture Series\, will be held in room 339 of Blanchard Hall\, located at 501 College Avenue in Wheaton.
