DESCRIPTION:The Physics Department at Wheaton College presents the annual Science Symposium March 26-27. This year's symposium is titled "Nuclear Energy: Realizing the Promise." Nuclear engineering experts will examine the topic of nuclear energy and its potential as a safe and clean energy source\; the possibility of harnessing nuclear energy to prevent global warming\; and the potential of innovative future nuclear technologies. Speakers include Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tennessee Dr. Ivan Maldonado\;Professor of Nuclear Engineering in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Department of Engineering Physics Dr. Paul Wilson\; and Argonne National Laboratory Nuclear Engineer Dr. Dave Grabaskas. In addition to presentations\, a screening and panel discussion of Pandora's Promise will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday\, March 26. The film\, directed by Robert Stone\, tells the stories of several prominent environmentalists who changed their position on nuclear energy. The symposium sessions will be held at 7 p.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
