SUMMARY:Nineteenth Society Lecture by Thomas Pfau
DESCRIPTION:The Nineteenth Society of Wheaton College presents a lecture. Duke University Professor Thomas Pfau will share principles from his book "Minding the Modern: Human Agency\, Intellectual Traditions\, and Responsible Knowledge" (University of Notre Dame\, 2013). Dr. Pfau is a professor of English at Duke University\, with secondary appointments in Germanic Languages & Literatures and in the Duke Divinity School. His expertise and interests include topics in eighteenth-and nineteenth-century literature\, philosophy\, intellectual history and Romantic poetry and theory. Following Pfau's lecture\, responses will be offered by Wheaton College faculty members Matthew Milliner\, assistant professor of art history and Jeffrey Barbeau\, associate professor of theology. A Q&A session will follow. The Nineteenth Society is an interdisciplinary colloquium at Wheaton College that facilitates dialogue among faculty who share an interest in the nineteenth century\, fosters collaboration among scholars in the greater Chicago-area\, and hosts formal events for the Wheaton College community.
