DESCRIPTION:Join Michelle Duster\, professor\, public historian and author of Ida B. the Queen about her great-grandmother Ida B. Wells as she discusses the work and legacy of Wells and the multi-generational family efforts to make sure her ancestor's contributions to the country are recognized and honored. Ms. Duster has worked on a PBS documentary film\, edited two books that include her ancestor's writing\, wrote two biographies\, and worked on a Chicago monument\, honorary street name\, historical marker\, large-scale mural\, and a major downtown Chicago street. She consults on other national projects that feature her ancestor. In addition\, she manages the family-run Ida B. Wells Memorial Foundation which provides college scholarships and supports public history projects that include Ida B. Wells.\n\n\n\nIda B. Wells\, who died in 1931\, lived in Chicago. She fought for women's right to vote\, was instrumental in the establishment of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People\, and was awarded posthumously the Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism.\n\nThe City of Wheaton Community Relations Commission\, Wheaton Public Library\, and League of Women Voters of Wheaton are partnering to bring this event to the community.\n\nThis is a hybrid event.
